Winemaker’s Notes:
Colour: deep ruby red with typical violet hues.
Nose: wide, elegant, amazingly fresh, rich in scent of small red flowers, violet and ripe grapes with very pleasant hint of spices, complex and persistent.
Palate: fine, velvety, elegant, very well-balanced with silky acidity and rich and long spiced finish. Fornace is a medium to full bodied wine impressive for freshness and complexity coming from ripe grapes and very long refinement in bottle.
Serving temperature: 15 – 18 ° C.
Cellaring: 6-8 years.
General Information:
Barbera is the most important grape in Piedmont. Fornace is produced in the Fornace di Cerreto vineyard in Nizza Monferrato, on the right side of Belbo river, at 160 m. above sea level. The vineyard, whose name comes from an ancient brick-kiln located in the area, is 16 years old, with about 4000 plants per hectare and the growing system is a Guyot traditional. The soil is calcareous and clayey with natural low production per hectare.
Difference is…
Fornace di Cerreto is a traditional Barbera produced with a modern style. Coming from one of the most important area in the appellation Fornace is different for the soil that gives a special scent of spices and for the refinement in bottle during one year. The result is a direct, rich, impressive and austere Barbera d’Asti.
