How we make our wine

The natural element - the vineyard in this case – contains within itself all the characteristics which will be fully unveiled only in the wine it yields. The concept is the same one expressed by Michelangelo: “Every block of marble contains a statue inside of it. It is up to the sculptor to discover it and bring it to life…” That statue already exists… and that statue only!

If this is true, the only aim of the winemaking process is to bring out and bottle the wine that is already potentially present in the soil itself. To think that one could possibly change the magic mixture of over 800 substances contained in the body of the wine and pilot the result in a completely different direction from the one implicit in the vineyard is both a philosophical and technical error.

Thus, the winemaker’s main job is to understand his vineyard. Everything else is just a logical consequence of his intuition: maturation curves, vinification temperature, tanks, barriques, etc. Malgrà follows these basic values throughout the winemaking process, always respecting its pact with the land.
